One in Christ Through Unity in Sisterhood

Who We Are

All Sigma Alpha Omega® activities are designed to fulfill the ideals of the sorority. These ideals are: Christian Leadership, Sisterhood, Spiritual Development, Campus Leadership, Good Scholarship, Fine Standards, Service, Excellence, and Love through Life in Christ.

In accordance with our creed (above),  we strive to provide the sisterhood of a social sorority, while being founded first and foremost in Christ.  Our goal is to demonstrate the love of God to our campus and our community not only through our general presence on campus, but specifically through our service and philanthropy events.  As sisters of Sigma Alpha Omega, we strive to set an example of Christian women to our fellow students and sisters, supporting and helping each other as we continue to grow in our faith.

What Makes Us Different

  • We regularly hold Bible studies and encourage deepening relationships with the Lord.

  • While we do organize social events like most sororities, all of our events are dry.

  • We encourage SAO sisters to be involved on campus, but sisters may not maintain a dual sisterhood between SAO and a Panhellenic sorority.

  • We are the only Christian sorority on UNCW's campus.

  • As a nondenominational organization, we accept all Christian ladies.

A National Sisterhood

In January 1998, the active brothers (both males and females) of the Beta Chapter of Chi Alpha Omega  at North Carolina State University voted to form Sigma Alpha Omega® in hopes of benefiting both the fraternity and the sorority. Both groups committed to living according to the ideals of Christ and His Word, uplifting each other through fellowship and service, and bringing the love of Christ to North Carolina State University.

Sigma Alpha Omega® Christian Sorority, Inc. was officially recognized as a national non-profit organization under the laws of North Carolina in June 2004. Since the founding of the sorority, chapters of Sigma Alpha Omega® have been established at many colleges and universities across the nation.

Our Chapter History

The Omicron chapter was founded by three sisters on April 20, 2005.  Since our founding, we have held recruitments each Fall and Spring, and look forward to accepting new sisters during our recruitment processes.  We are excited to grow in Christ together, and make a larger impact on the UNCW campus!
